On the day when Paul took a summer job at Repsom museum, the Gilbertson necklace was brought to the museum to be put on show. Meanwhile Paul started to work with Anna Wain on some displays about life in ancient Repsom. Two weeks later, the alarm went off at 11 o'clock and when Paul and Anna went downstairs to see what had happened, they say that the necklace had been stolen. The thief had covered the security camera in that room with a newspaper while he or she stole it. When the police came, they interviewed all those who worked there and they suspected Paul, since the necklace was stolen only two weeks after he started working there, and before, nothing had ever been stolen. Apart from that, only two years before, he had been with some friends who had been caught stealing packets of cigarettes. Meanwhile, Paul found the necklace hidden in the treasure chest of the pirate display. He was going to hand it over to the police, but then he thought that the police would think that he had stolen it and had pretended to have found it. Since the police were suspecting Paul, Mr Balfour told him to find another job. Paul was very angry that he was going to leave the museum with the blame still on him, so he decided to prove his innocence by catching the thief himself.. At midnight, Derek Halliday came carrying a torch. When he picked up the necklace, Paul switched on the light and Derek admitted that someone had paid him to steal the necklace. Then Mrs Gilbertson came with a gun to kill Derek and take the necklace. She wanted to make it seem as if her necklace had been stolen in order to get one hundred thousand pounds as insurance money and then more money by secretly selling the necklace because she had become poor. She wanted to kill Derek because he would keep asking her for more money to keep quiet. She shot him in the shoulder but he was not killed. Paul switched off the light and in the dark, she walked into the prison cell of the prison display. Paul locked her in. She and Derek were arrested and jailed. He proved himself innocent and kept his summer job at the museum. Paul: Paul was a sixteen-year-old student who was studying History at school. In his summer holidays, he got a job at Repsom museum.
